Have your say on our budget

We have launched a new consultation and want you to tell us how we should spend our £2 billion budget in 2024-2025.

Every year, we spend money on delivering essential services. We also invest money in infrastructure and economic growth. This means we are best placed to meet demands in the short and long-term.

We have a positive track record of strong financial management. However, like other areas, we are facing challenges. This is due in part to high inflation, rising interest rates and the cost of living. We must also meet the demands of an ever-increasing population.

We have some difficult decisions to make and need to understand what matters to our communities. This will help us to prioritise our resources.

The consultation is your opportunity to share what's important to you and your family. We also want to know what you think about the big issues and challenges that lie ahead for Essex.

Your response will help to inform our final budget plans. We will share these in January as part of our Cabinet papers.

Councillor Chris Whitbread, Chancellor of Essex, said:

We don’t have all the answers when it comes to addressing the challenges we face locally and nationally. Like many households across Essex, we must also make difficult choices about where we spend our budget and where to make savings.

We can learn a lot from our communities and it’s important we create opportunities for people and businesses to help inform our priorities for the coming year. A positive way of doing this is by sharing your views during the consultation.
