We have launched the new Essex Social Work Promise.
It has been developed with input from children and young people in Essex. It aims to strengthen relationships between children, families and social workers. It will help ensure children and families receive the support they deserve.
The promise sets out eight commitments to every child or young person in Essex with a social worker. It states:
We promise to:
- Spend time with you and get to know you.
- Listen to you and learn from you.
- Help you understand what is happening.
- Ask where you would like to meet.
- Work with you and your family to overcome problems.
- Work with your school to help you achieve your best.
- Ask you if you would like to attend and be involved in meetings about you.
- Help you understand when our time working together will come to an end.
Councillor Beverley Egan, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Early Years, said:
Being a social worker is an incredibly important job and we have a dedicated and passionate workforce in Essex. But we know we can always improve the support we provide.
We want all our social workers to be the best they can be and to be empowered to provide care that makes a real difference to the children and families they work with.
Our promise sets out to all children and young people in Essex what they can expect when they have a social worker. By equipping them with knowledge about the social work role, they will develop greater understanding and it will help challenge some of the negative perceptions of social care.
