Families recently discovered the magic of the Deep Dark Wood at a Gruffalo Day at Thorndon Country Park. Based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s picture books, the Gruffalo trail is a 45-minute experience, taking visitors through the woodland. The trail is also open this upcoming bank holiday weekend.
On Saturday 20 May, Explore Essex and the Essex Wildlife Trust organised a free community event for families. Throughout the day, there was a variety of family friendly entertainment including yoga and cycling workshops, a bird of prey display, circus skills, a magician and special appearances from the Gruffalo.
Councillor Louise McKinlay, Essex County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community, Equality, Partnerships and Performance, said: “The Gruffalo trail is a wonderful attraction that encourages both reading and outdoor exploration. I’m delighted that so many children got to experience meeting the Gruffalo and his friends.
“These free community events for children and families can be used to encourage young people to understand their natural world, all while having fun.”
The trail is licensed by Magic Light Pictures.
